A ridiculously easy shade sail planning guide

If you’re considering getting a shade sail for your home, backyard or workplace, then you’re making an excellent choice! Shade sails are a cost-effective shade solution which offers excellent protection from the sun. Furthermore, you can install them yourself – which is a big draw-card for many consumers.

But what exactly do you need to look for when choosing shade sails? Well, I’ll help you out. As a shade sail manufacture, today I will compile a ridiculously easy shade sail planning guide. Continue reading and by the end, you’ll be informed enough to choose and install your very own shade sails.

1. Location

Before you head out to purchase your shade sails, first consider where you want to install them. Start by determining the size of the area you want to cover – this will give you an idea of what size shade sail you need.

When looking at the location, also consider the sun direction and plan for shadows. It’s also a good idea to check the wind conditions to see if the location is suitable for installing a shade sail.

Finally, look to see if there are any suitable areas that can be used as anchoring points around the location. If there are no trees or eaves, you will need to first install posts for your anchoring points.

2. Shade sail selection

After you’ve considered the location, you can move on to selecting your shade sails. Here, you’ll need to decide on the size, shape and colour of your shade sails.

Shade sails are available in a range of sizes and shapes. Here, at Global Shade, our DIY shade sails come in three shapes – triangular, square and rectangular. Our triangular shade sails come in size options of 3.5mx3.5mx3.5m, 5mx5mx5m and 6.8mx6.8mx6.8m. Our square shade sails are available in sizes of 3mx3m, 4.4mx4.4m and 5.8mx5.8m while our rectangular shade sails come in sizes of 3mx5m, 4.4mx6m and 5.8mx8m. You can view the full range here.

Shade sails are also available in a range of colours, which will change from manufacture to manufacture. Our colours range includes cinnamon, desert sand, silver, charcoal, black, navy blue, Laguna blue, royal blue, turquoise, rainforest, olive, eucalyptus, gumleaf, ice white, chocolate, mulberry, rust gold, red earth, terracotta, sunset red, atomic orange, zesty lime, electric purple, sunflower yellow, quartz and hazel.

With the size, shape and colour selected, you can now purchase your shade sails.

3. Installation

Finally, now that you’ve purchased a shade sail, all that is left is to install them. Thankfully, DIY shade sails are extremely easy to install.

To install shade sails, find your anchoring points and ensure that they are structurally stable. If you required support posts, install these first then add the anchoring points to them. Next, lay out the shade sail in place on the ground. Finally, use hooks or shackles to securely fasten the shade sail to the anchoring point on each support post. Isn’t it as simple as I promised?
